Sounding off from the island of Tortola, British Virgin Islands is none other than Birch Lettsome better known by his stage name DJ Bertrum. Recognized as an entertainer and media personality, DJ Bertrum’s impressive resume rivals the credentials of many a DJ in the industry. Whether on the radio, TV, or in the club his ability to connect with his audience is evident and has created a demand for him as a DJ and Host throughout the Caribbean, the U.S., and Europe.

Birch Lettsome’s musical journey can be traced to the East End of Tortola. Birch began mixing CDs and provided the soundtrack to many a party in the area including school dances and house parties. As his talent improved musically, Bertrum decided to pursue a DJ career in the entertainment world. DJ Bertrum became known for his ability to connect with the crowd by combining current hits with old school classics. Bertrum describes his style as “Party Vibes” an upbeat mixture of Dancehall, Calypso, Zouk, R&B, and Hip Hop music.

With a work ethic unparallel to most, DJ Bertrum has created a name for himself as an entertainer and media personality in the British and U.S. Virgin Islands and the entire Caribbean. Through constant work and determination his career accolades include ZVCR Radio Personality, VI Hot 5 TV Show Host, and Host of the 2005 and 2006 Heineken Green Synergy DJ Competition. His DJ affiliations include the TopGunnerz DJ Fraternity and Shadyville Caribbean DJ Consortium.

His ability to electrify crowds has been experienced in the club and concert circuit alike in places outside of the BVI including: Anguilla, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, St. Croix, Aruba, the Bahamas, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and Coventry, U.K. DJ Bertrum can be heard throughout the week on ZVCR 106.9 www.ZVCR1069fm.com on the Heineken After Party a two hour mix show. Viewers in the British Virgin Islands can tune into JTV Channel 55 for the VI Hot 5 Countdown Show Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays with DJ Bertrum as its host. Bertrum also releases a weekly podcast entitled Music Mondays for his fans.

Though successful on many levels DJ Bertrum remains grounded; he is quoted as follows, “Making it is progressive; I don’t think I will ever feel like I’ve made it because when you think you’re on top it relaxes you. There is always something you can do better or something new for you to learn.” Bertrum credits his style and success to his mentor DJ Wiz and all the DJs that laid the groundwork for his craft in the music industry today.

Through an established business relationship with Heineken DJ Bertrum was entrusted to organize, promote, and host the 1st Heineken Green Synergy Competition in 2005. Other notable credits to his name include: The Guinness Black & White Affair, ZVCR’s Wet Fete/Anniversary Parties, the Rotaract’s Annual Blue Jeans Party, Grown & Sexy Saturdays, in addition to his very own annual Birthday Bash and New Years Eve Party. In 2007, Bertrum partnered with Tru Limerz Association to host and promote events such as the Last Class Jam, Sleep Ova Jam, Blackout, School Uniform Jam, Flag Fete, and much more.

 

His credits as an entertainer and DJ includes stage time alongside famed entertainers such as: Damian Marley, Wyclef Jean, Keyshia Cole, Cecile, Ding Dong, Elephant Man, Nina Sky, Demarco, T.O.K., DJ Enuff, Sizzla, Gregory Isaacs, Tony Matterhorn, Shurwayne Winchester, Pressure, Tanya Stephens, Baby Cham, Mr. Vegas, Capleton, and countless others.

DJ Bertrum has also backed the following artists: Iyaz, Lincoln Ward, Calypso Rose, the Mighty Sparrow, DTM Boys, Kissinger, and Rock City.

Cameo appearances: The One (Lincoln Ward), Soca Pledge (Showtime Band), From the VI (Squad Up), R U Listening, and Baddest Man (Benny Demus).

Musical credits include: the Shadyville Caribbean Mix CD, The One Riddim, Seduction the Mixtape (Lincoln Ward), More Music Less Talk Mixtape, On the Road Festival Remix (2006), Riddim Fe Dem Ultra Dancehall Mix 2007, Time Travel Hip Hop/R&B, Absolutely Captivating (vocals) with DJ Riquo, Xtreme Band’s (Locked and Loaded Album), NYE2011 Mixtape (with DJ Riquo), Xtreme Band’s 2011 Single Grown & Sexy (Vocals) and B’more’s Conversations Vol.1.

DJ Bertrum when not traveling continues to rock the masses throughout the British Virgin Islands whether it’s on the radio, television, or in the club. Bertrum’s party vibes can be heard every second Saturday at Callaloo Prospect Reef in Tortola at the popular Grown & Sexy Saturdays. He is also known to frequent spots such as: Club Renaissance, the Bat Cave, Club Diplomat, Limers, Virgin Queen, U.P.’s Cineplex, Rock Cafe, Bottoms Up, Quito’s, Caribbean Rock – St. Thomas, and the Treehouse from time to time.
